Welcome to Year 4!

We’re thrilled to welcome you to Year 4 - a year of exciting learning, growing independence, and unforgettable experiences. Your child’s class teacher is Miss Routh, supported by our dedicated teaching assistant Mrs Saddique. Together, we’re here to make this year engaging, supportive, and full of discovery.

Our Learning Journey

Year 4 is packed with rich topics that inspire curiosity and creativity:

We dive into the world of rivers, culminating in an exciting river study fieldwork project where children explore real-life river features and processes. We travel back in time to explore the Ancient Egyptian civilization, focusing on the concept of beliefs and the legacy of the pharaohs. These units are brought to life through hands-on activities, storytelling, and cross-curricular links.

PE & Swimming

PE is every Tuesday - please ensure your child has their kit in school:

  • White t-shirt
  • Plain black shorts or leggings
  • Black trainers
  • No jewellery

Swimming takes place every Monday morning during the autumn and spring terms. Children will need:

  • A full swimsuit (no bikinis) or swimming trunks/shorts
  • A towel
  • A named bag for their kit

Swimming is a vital life skill and a fun way to build confidence in the water.

Reading Every Day

Reading is at the heart of learning in Year 4. We ask that children:

  • Read their home reader every evening
  • Bring their book to school daily
  • Explore a wide range of texts from our school library

Daily reading helps build vocabulary, comprehension, and a lifelong love of books.

Times Tables Check - June 2026

All Year 4 children will take part in the Multiplication Tables Check during the week beginning 1st June 2026. To prepare, it’s essential that children can recall multiplication facts quickly and confidently.

To support this, children have access to:

  • Times Tables Rockstars - a fun and competitive way to practise
  • TopMarks.co.uk and timestables.co.uk - interactive games and quizzes
  • BBC Bitesize and YouTube - catchy songs and videos to help memorise facts

Please encourage regular practice at home - just a few minutes a day makes a big difference!

Stay Connected

We’re here to support your child every step of the way. If you have any questions or would like to know more about life in Year 4, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with Miss Routh or Mrs Saddique.

Let’s make this year one to remember!
